The Packaging Development R&D US Biscuit & Baked Snacks Director will translate business strategy into technical plans, innovation platforms, and key programs to deliver on expected growth and financial targets utilizing robust consumer insights and technical strategies. The Category Lead will lead change and mobilize the packaging organization in a changing environment, solving business problems with enterprise thinking. This focus will be across innovation, sustainability, productivity and brand renovation programs in the Business Unit and Category.

How you will contribute

The Packaging R&D Director will partner with the Business Unit commercial teams regarding prioritization and resource allocation decisions and tradeoffs while setting the right priorities/metrics/milestones. This role will be responsible for identifying, driving and commercializing emerging and existing packaging innovation / technology platforms that are brand, consumer, shopper, and customer relevant.

The position also has responsibility to partner in development and deployment of global brand strategies as well as the responsibility to align the region against the global brand / packaging strategies.

As a people leader, this role will develop and coach employees, identify and address capability needs and develop the talent pipeline.

  • Solid understanding of the packaging development process and procedures: technical feasibility, experimental design, consumer testing, etc.

  • In depth knowledge of material functionality, food safety, stability, regulatory restrictions

  • Ability to translate technical strategy into business deliverables to influence cross- partners

  • Translate business strategy into technical plans, innovation platforms, and key programs to deliver on expected growth and financial targets utilizing robust consumer insights and technical strategies. Develop and implement NA B&BS Category Packaging Strategies (across 2 BUs)

  • Leverage global category and consumer insights to lead and develop packaging development technical strategy for the region categories including driving Innovation, sustainability, productivity, quality improvement, brand maintenance and technical services programs in NA. Influence the BU multifunctional strategy.

  • Lead the packaging region team in support of the packaging agenda for the BU. Senior single point of contact for Biscuit Packaging within the region and responsible for prioritizing the Packaging resources across the BUs to develop and execute innovation and renovation programs.

  • Deliver Business Units' AC, SP, and 4-2-1 Innovation funnel for the BU in line with global brand strategies.

  • Develop technical capabilities across the team in support of the global packaging vision and digital first approaches; develop and drive the agenda for Packaging as it relates to building capability for NA talent development; coach and develop talent pipeline within the Category team located in Mexico, US and Canada

  • Ensure robust IP strategy for the Category in NA.

  • Manage compliance to Mondelez relevant policies, as well as government regulations.

Education / Certifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Packaging Technology, Material Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or similar degree.

Job specific requirements:

10+ years in R&D Technical Packaging or relevant function with proven track record of people and project management in a highly technical and commercial environment

Experience in leading multi-functional and multi-cultural teams, influencing up, down and sideways

Experience leveraging internal and external resources and work in a highly matrixed environment

Experience in formulating strategy, planning, business leadership, problem solving, project management while operating in a dynamic and outcome-oriented environment.

Travel requirements:

10-15% domestic travel
