This role is part of the Food Material Sciences team within the Global Research organisation dedicated to establishing fundamental scientific understanding and discovering technologies that will enable breakthrough competitive and sustainable advantage for our categories and overall business.

The role will report into the Senior Group Leader, Food Material Sciences and will collaborate closely with colleagues in other centralised global research teams (Lipids, Proteins, Carbohydrates, Crop Science, Biotransformation, Flavour) as well as category teams (Biscuits, Bakery, Chocolate and BGCM). The role will work in close partnership with the Food Material Sciences Technical Leads to define the technical chellenges and strategy that will deliver the technology platforms in the area of materials science research.

The Food Material Sciences Research team undertakes a wide range of critical research projects designed to deliver breakthrough technologies in areas of physical chemistry of particles/solids materials, soft matter research including emulsions, colloids and foams, as well as fundatemental texture understanding including the role of oral processing.

The job holder has a broad understanding of soft matter physics, brings experience of studying the behaviour of biologically derived materials and a passion for leveraging this understanding to deliver the snacks of the future.

The role has responsibility for providing technical direction and coaching within the Ingredient Research Innovation Space (IRIS), including maintenance of the quality system, making sure procedures are followed properly and the highest standards of work and H&S are maintained. Play a key role in ensuring that complex projects are performed and supervised effectively and accurately within agreed timescales and to appropriate technical rigor.

Technical

  • Provide high quality cross-functional, cross-category customer engagement at all times by ensuring effective organisation of assigned workload, integrity of research generated and timely/accurate provision of updates.

  • Provide Technical direction within own area of expertise within the team.

  • Plan and execute projects cross category in the area of materials science to manipulate/improve final product properties / ingredient functionality in order to support the growth strategy of Mondelez International.

  • Lead the formulation and communication of hypotheses to stakeholders, design experimental plans, conduct appropriate testing, gather and analyse data.

  • Interpret data, findings and results and present status updates to project leaders and stakeholders. Define subsequent steps with platform or project manager while demonstrating scientific know-how and capability to link findings to business objective.

  • Organize and plan lab and pilot scale trials. Demonstrate good organisational skills including engagement with relevant analytical co-ordinators/lab managers and relevant experts. Perform a range of line side analysis to support execution of trials in IRIS.

  • Structure data, findings or results in technical memos and present status updates to project manager/stakeholders up to VP level. Write technical reports including literature reviews with minimal guidance from the manager or sr. colleagues.

  • Expert user of specific equipment in IRIS. Equipment owner resposnbile for overseeing the maintenance and troubleshooting.Provide training and supervise junior staff in routine activities and methods and interpretation.

  • Take responsibility for elements of specific projects and/or specific areas of general IRIS/sample administration and assigned housekeeping tasks as required.

  • Write technical reports, literature reviews, presentations, author IDFs with minimal supervision

Communication & Influence

  • To liase with stakeholders, technical leads and line management to ensure effective communication of project updates and results.

  • Participate in stake holders meetings as required.

  • Deliver internal presentations across groups and to technical stakeholders.

  • Manage small projects or defined areas of larger projects.

Leadership and supervision

  • Plan own workload and plan routine projects for junior staff

QEHS

  • Work to the highest standards of safety and quality by ensuring that appropriate COSHHs, risk assessments and SOPs are understood and followed.

  • To complete assigned quality actions on a timely manner, including review and approval.

  • Write and approve SOPs.

  • Generation and approval of Risk Assesments and COSHH.

  • To maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment.

  • To understand and work to the requirements of GMP and HACCP.

  • Ensure training records are accurate.
