Working as part of a cross functional team, you lead RDQ activities to complete packaging design and packaging deployment for innovation/growth projects and productivity projects across multiple geographies with an emphasis on delivering the desired consumer experience.

How you will contribute

You will independently coordinate technical work for projects in line with RDQ, marketing and manufacturing requirements, effectively communicating status and risks, and coordinate projects to determine appropriate packaging specification information using sampling and supplier management and pilot-plant and factory trials in accordance with good manufacturing practice and HACCP requirements. In this role, you will also develop activities such as packaging design and specifications, scale up, commissioning, etc., and plan for the effective use of resources including the use of external agencies and suppliers. To succeed in this role, you will use your understanding of equipment design and manufacturing processes to ensure that packaging specifications are determined with excellence. You will be accountable for stakeholder management and influencing decisions based on conclusions derived from the analysis and interpretation of results; develop and leverage connections both internally and with the external technical community; and create intellectual property to drive competitive advantage.

What you need to know about this position:

This is a Packaging Development R&D position in the NA Biscuit Category responsible for delivering against the commercialization agenda in the US physically located in the strategic location in Mexico operational Hub. The individual must possess experience in package development and plant trial execution during the commercialization process in a fast-paced environment.

What extra ingredients you will bring:

  • Execute the packaging biscuits programs happening or with high demand activities in the Mexico HUB from concept initiation through commercialization. Developing timelines, risk assessment and contingency plans to ensure execution on projects with limited supervision.

  • Lead and maintain an agenda and lead key project for the NA business projects including innovation, brand maintenance, capacity expansions, productivity, quality and BCPs

  • Follow i2m process for assigned projects and keep communication with key stakeholders for implementation. This includes participating in project update meetings led by PCM or marketing and provide accurate status and in a timely manner to avoid potential delays on project ATOs.

  • Lead and/or support plant trials for packaging materials, working with cross-functional teams (Marketing, Procurement, Business Development, Production, Supply Chain and Quality). Properly plan, coordinate and report each trial, provide appropriate level of technical support and troubleshooting to execute trial objectives and ensure proper documentation of each activity.

  • Design, plan and conduct analytical testing, line trials and package performance testing.

  • Build and maintain relationship and constant communication with key pack material vendors on the development of new concepts, materials, and quality improvement.

  • Leverage and challenge suppliers and partners to develop new technologies and cost advantage packaging formats and materials to achieve business goals.

  • Ability to generate, develop and execute packaging ideas by leveraging both existing equipment in the company and new equipment.

Education / Certifications:

Travel requirements:

Minimum of 3 years in a packaging development or process development role working with plant personnel and management. Capacity expansion experience preferred.

  • Experience working in a Research, Development and Quality function.

  • Experience managing projects within a plant environment (Product Development, Process Technology, New Product Commercialization, etc.).

  • Planning and project management abilities.

  • Experience in package development processes.

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience in development, trials and commercialization of packaging initiatives.Desired: Experience with Lean Six Sigma tools and process control systems, Intermediate Stats experience, including Design of Experiments and use of MiniTab

  • Packaging Materials: apply technical material knowledge to current projects; provide technical based solutions.

  • Product Packaging interactions: apply knowledge of product, process, and package interactions along with modes of failure to make material recommendations and narrow down variables during development process.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of the organization.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; able to effectively communicate to all levels within the organization.

  • Packaging Equipment: apply knowledge of equipment, operation, capacities, limitations, and potential mechanical shortfalls
